There was an unusual traffic flow coming through Arat Kilo to the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) on Tuesday. Celebrating the international Labor Day, schoolchildren had the day off; and one would naturally expect city malls, cinemas, or cafes to be packed with people enjoying one of the rarest vacations in the middle of the week. Goethe celebrates 50th anniversary

 

The German cultural institute (Goethe) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this week.

Established in 1962, the German cultural institute in Ethiopia is the first to be established in Africa. This cultural venue, which was launched by the Emperor Haile-Selassie, was originally located in Arat Killo.

Traditional animal slaughter

Carrying a sharp knife in the pocket, he watches as the deal between the herder and the customer progress in a rapt attention. And so he remains, until after the sale is made the customer starts to pull away with the live animal that is purchased. That is when the slaughter man snatches the sheep or the goat from the hands of the herder and offers his services to the buyer.
