Tewodros Habtu (Addis Ababa])stood first after completing the first phase 153-km race of the The Guzo to Abay Minch bicycle rally sponsored by Zekolina Construction in 4 hours and 23 minutes. Ferew Tezera (Addis Ababa) and Kedir Sa’ed (Amhara) came in second and third finishing the race in 4 hours 30 minutes 4 hours and 31 minutes, respectively.
The tour commenced with the two competing teams from Addis Ababa and Amhara cycling together for about 300kms followed by the 153-km race from the town of Debre Markos to Injebara.
Before the start of the race Ambaye Demel, head coach of the Amhara team said: “The Amhara team is already the champion and is well prepared for this tour.”
Addis Ababa team head coach Woldekidan Geremew also said that he had confidence in his team.
On Thursday the first competition was dominated by the Addis Ababa team.
The team became the overall winner with 202 points while Amhara managed to collect 139 points.
The competition will come to an end on Sunday at Bahir Dar after the final 60-km leg.
