Mission

The Reporter’s motto expresses the ideal of freedom that we, the journalists and editors, hope to enjoy and promote within our profession: “Free Press, Free Speech, Free Spirit.” The mission of Reporter is the following:

  • Acknowledge a responsibility to our readers, to the public, the people in and outside Ethiopia who rely on us for news.
  • Pledge that each week we will bring to the public the critical stories facing our people and be educational tool for knowledge of these topics.
  • Guarantee to make our editorial choices about what to print based on the importance of a topic to our country along with the quality of journalism and not any political, economic, or other unethical motivations.
  • Dedicate ourselves to help our readers in their effort to become an informed citizenry through giving as much information as possible on both sides of a story in our publication.
  • Pledge to serve as a platform for the public’s own thoughts, opinions, and ideas by soliciting, accepting, reviewing and publishing letters and comments.
  • Intend to make our newspaper a model for those in our profession, a guide for novices, and a means for more practiced to build and develop their craft through the standard of this template.
