Six Mekele FC players arrive at Addis

Following an escalating war in the Tigray region, six Mekele City Football Club players, four foreign and two Ethiopians arrived in Addis Ababa, The Reporter has learnt.

Mekele FC has been training twice a day for the 2020/21 season of the Ethiopian Premier League (EPL) and CAF champions’ league competitions. According to various sources, the players, Okiki Afolabi(Nigeria), Daniel Oje, Kalusha Alhassan(Ghana), Sisoko, Seyoum Tesfaye and Amin Nesru arrived at the capital city on Wednesday and left for Semera, Afar.

It was reported that the players tried to meet the club management, especially, the club President; however, the management had no information on whether the players left to Addis Ababa. Furthermore, Welwalo Adigrat and Suhul Shire Football club players are also believed to be on their way to Addis Ababa.

It can be recalled that the 2018/19 EPL season champions, Mekele City, were set to face Al Ahly Benghazi in the 2020/21 CAF Champions’ League. However, it is uncertain if the club will take part in the competition.
