The FDRE House of Peoples’ Representatives called for an immediate report on the incessant deaths of innocent civilians and insecurity in Metekel Zone of Benishangul-Gumz in a closed-door meeting held on Thursday.
A member of parliament who spoke to The Reporter on condition of anonymity stated that the house directed its Law, Justice and Democracy affairs Standing Committee and the Peace and Foreign Affairs committee to assess and scrutinize the activities of the executive body and produce a report within a week.
The MP described the atmosphere in the house as emotional and filled with comments of anger towards the government.
The MP further stated that Parliamentarians put in a request to the executive branch of government to have OLF Shene, Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and Benishangul-Gumuz Liberation Front designated as terrorist groups and for the government to notify the house of its decision.
The closed sixth year fifth ordinary session also saw lawmakers approve the Defense Forces Amendment Proclamation.
