IPDC introduces new technology to administer resources

The Ethiopian Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) revealed it has introduced a new digital technology to administer all of its resources within the industrial parks.

The system dubbed Cloud Fusion Enterprise Resource Planning, came to realization with the financial support of the World Bank (WB) and was launched in the presence of senior government officials on Friday, May 21, 2021, in an event held at Skylight Hotel.

During the launching ceremony, project manager of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and general manager of Information Technology Park at the IPDC, Surafel Shimeles said that the new system will help the Corporation administer all its resources ranging from human resources to properties of the parks.

The Cloud Fusion ERP technology will be implemented within the parks through different phases, he explained. Initially, he went on to highlight, financial matters that include procurement and human resources will be implemented.

Both the Corporation and the Parks conducted their activities related to finances manually. However, in the past couple of month, the activities have been conducted through a combination of both manual and digital mechanisms, which eventually will be replaced fully by the IFRS system.

Furthermore, it was revealed that the role of ERP is many including contract, project and human resource administration, and the corporation is planning to implement all these in the next phase at the end of this year and beginning of next year.

The WB covered the total cost of the project, which is 30 million birr, and a company called SOFTPRO, which also executed the same project at ethio-telecom, executed the project.

Previously, the financial transactions of the government owned Industrial parks were conducted manually, which resulted in reporting problems. However, since the new system is cloud based, the commission will receive a well-organized report on time from every industrial park across the country.
