Cyclist Selam Amaha fails to finish race

Ethiopia’s Cycling representative in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Selam Amaha, was unable to finish the women’s Olympic road race due to high temperature during the competition.

The 23 year old has been participating in the African championships since 2017. She competed in the African championships in Egypt in 2017, Rwanda in 2018, and Cairo in 2021.

Ethiopia started participating in cycling in 1956 at the Melbourne Olympics. Guremu Demboba, Mesfin Tesfaye, Zehaye Bahta, and Negussie Mengistu were the first Ethiopians to compete in the Olympic Games.

Furthermore, five male cyclists represented Ethiopia in 1960.
