Inflation overshadowing festivities

Alas, skyrocketing prices have dampened the holiday atmosphere!  With April’s food -item inflation reaching an unprecedented 43 percent, members of the public are feeling the pinch, left wondering how to afford a rooster, not to mention a ram or a goat.

Even though the unbridled inflation is a symptom of a malfunctioning economy, the powers that be have shunned dealing with the crisis, instead putting the whole problem down to the war in Ukraine and the conflict in northern Ethiopia.

With many households struggling to cover holiday expenses, it is a pity that the less fortunate are left with nothing other than officials’ invocation of the tradition of “Ma’ed Magarat” (lit., sharing a meal). SEE THE FULL STORY
