Safaricom to first launch service in Dire Dawa

Safaricom Ethiopia announced its plan to launch service in August 2022.

It will start with Dire Dawa and expand operations to Addis Ababa and other cities by April 2023, the company’s executives disclosed in a press briefing held today.

“Safaricom sets for commercial launch in dire dawa by August and expand to 24 more cities by Aprill 2023,” said Mathew Harvey chief external affairs and regulatory.

Safaricom, which entered to Ethiopia’s market after winning a bid for 850 million dollars, was first planning to begin services during April 2022. That was however delayed as the infrastructure lease deal with ethio telecom took more time than anticipated.
