Attorney General Getachew Ambaye is scheduled to brief the media tomorrow regarding the pardon/amnesty (yet to be clarified) of some political leaders who are in prison or currently standing trial in Ethiopia.
It is to be remembered that after completion of EPRDF’s Executive Committee 17-day meeting, leaders of the four member parties that make the coalition had issued rare public statement announcing the ruling party’s decision to release “some politicians who are in prison or standing trial” on top of symbolic move to shut down the infamous Meakelawi high security investigation center.
However things went silent following the announcement while rumors abound as to the government considering the execution of decision. Getachew is also set to announce whether there will be other detainees other than politicians who will be included in the pardon/amnesty.
