Heavy rain forces EPL to postpone fixtures

Severe rains in Dire Dawa have rendered the Betking Ethiopian Premier League (EPL) week 16 games, including the match between Arba Minch City and Wolkite City, impossible to play.

The matches that were initially planned to take place on March 2 will now be played according to a different predetermined timetable, the details of which have not been disclosed as of yet.

As a result of the unexpected rainfall in Dire Dawa, the Week 15 matches that were scheduled to take place between Electric and Sidama Coffee as well as Ethiopia Coffee and Fasil Kenema have been postponed.

The Betking EPL games for the third round were scheduled to be played at Adama Science and Technology University beginning in week 14. However, they stated that they were unable to host the competition because of security concerns. Consequently, the EPL Share Company announced that Dire Dawa City would continue to serve as the venue for the remaining two games from match week 12 to match week 19.

Problems with the country’s stadiums continue to be the most significant obstacle for Ethiopia’s sporting events. Construction or refurbishment work is still being done at a number of stadiums, including the Adey Ababa national stadium, the Addis Ababa stadium, and the Bahir Dar stadium.
