EPL resumes in Adama

The Betking Ethiopian League (EPL) will resume at the Adama Science and Technology University stadium, according to the EPL share company.

The regular schedule, which was suspended due to the Ethiopian national team’s participation in 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, will resume from Week 17 to Week 27 at the Adama Science and Technology University and Hawassa City University stadiums, per the Share Company.

The Hawassa University Stadium will host matches between May 7 and 5 June 5, 2023.

The Ethiopian national team returned from the AFCON qualifiers on Wednesday, having lost to Guinea in the third and fourth games. Five days after their arrival in Ethiopia, national team players are expected to return to their clubs and resume regular competition.

On April 1, 2023, Week 17 matches will begin with Adama City versus Mechal, followed by Sidama Coffee hosting Hadiya Hossana. Fasil City will face Woliata Dicha, while league-leading St. George braces for Ethio-Electric. Ethio-Insurance will take on Arba Minch on Monday, April 3, while Dire Dawa City face Lege Tafo.

Additionally, the Share Company announced that Betking, which held the title name, has left Ethiopia due to administrative issues.

Kifle Seyif, the general secretary of the Share Company, explained to The Reporter that “Betking” does not have a contract with the company. The league competition, according to him, will continue under the name “Betking Ethiopia Premier League,” and only DSTV has the authority to change the name if necessary.
