8.5 million in need of humanitarian assistance

The National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC) announced that it has identified 8.5 million people who are in need of humanitarian aid in the coming five months.

This was announced following a survey the commission conducted in concert with different federal ministries, regional sectoral bureaus, the UN agencies, bilateral partners and other international non-governmental organizations for 30 days since May 23, 2017.

The current number is higher than the previous year’s 7.8 million people who were in need of humanitarian assistance. The current increase in the number of the assistance needing people was mainly prompted by belg rain fluctuations, animal feed shortages, shortage of production in some areas and water shortages.
