US special envoy Hammer visits Mekele for talks on Tigray peace, aid

Ambassador Mike Hammer, the Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, arrived in Mekele with Tracy Ann Jacobson, the American Chargé d’Affaires to Ethiopia, to meet with the Tigray Interim Administration.

The Region’s President Getatchew Reda welcomed the American delegation at the airport. A peace agreement was signed in November 2022 in both Pretoria and Nairobi, effectively ending the conflict.

Ambassador Hammer and Ambassador Jacobson’s visit is expected to result in concrete steps towards ensuring lasting peace and stability in the Tigray region.

The delegation will also discuss the possible resumption of aid to the region, which was suspended due to allegations of aid theft.
