President Mulatu Teshome on Thursday bestowed military ranks of Lieutenant, Major and Brigadier-General on over 38 high-ranking military officers in the Ethiopian Defense forces, the office of the President said in a press release sent to The Reporter.
In a statement sent to The Reporter, the office of the President indicated that Gebrat Ayele (Major-General) was raised to the rank of Lieutenant-General, a military rank held by few officers in the Ethiopia Defense Forces thus far, while 12 other Brigadiers-General were elevated to the rank of Major-General.
Similarly, 25 other military officers at the level of Colonel were raised to the rank of Brigadier-General, the statement said.
Of the high-ranking officers, one was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General, 12 to Major-General, and 25 to Brigadier-General.
According to the latest appointment, the 12 officers who were raised to the rank of Major-General include Mohammedisha Zeynu Tikue, Halefom Ejigu Moges, Masho Beyene Desta, Tigabu Yilma Wendimhunegn, Getachew Gudina Selbana, Diriba Mekonen Hateu, Gebremichael Beyene Tedla, Desta Abiche Ageno, Degife Bedi Dugaye, Yimer Mekonen Ali, Achalu Sheleme Merga and Abel Ayele Alto.
The 25 army colonels who were promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General are: Adisu Gebreyesus Gebreyohanes, Kidu Alemu Asegu, Birhanu Tilahun Berhe, Girma Kebebew Tufa, Admasu Alemu Woldesenbet, Teklay Kidane Tedla, Sisay Wublene Mekonen, Jemal Mohammed Yemam, Abebe Beyene Alemu, Tegegn Leta Shine, Tadese Mekuriya Zerihun, Mebrahtu Woldearegay Asu, Letay Mesfin Tikue, Kindu Gezu Tegegn, Demsew Amenu Fafa, Semere Gebregiziabher Kiflom, Melaku Shiferaw Tiruneh, Bulti Tadese Ktila, Zemene Kifle Gebremedhin, Mulualem Admasu Kahsu, Gu’ush Gebre Gebrewahed, Yilma Merdasa Gnapa, Alemayehu Getachew Jembere, Tiruye Asfe Abera, and Jehad Jemal Ahmed.
According to article 71 of the Ethiopian Constitution, the President, upon recommendation by the Prime Minister, is mandated to bestow high military ranks on military officers.
