Gurage zone runners set to hit the streets

The Kerod Sports and Development Association has announced that the third annual 15-kilometer road race will take place on July 16, 2023 in Wolkite town. Over 1,000 athletes are expected to participate, including numerous club athletes.

The Kerrod Race Run has become a popular event for runners in the Gurage zone, with the race aiming to provide a platform for competition and nurture young talent.

Tesema Abshiro, president of Kerod Sports and Development Association, believes that the Gurage Zone has tremendous potential to produce talented athletes, particularly young athletes, due to its favorable climate.

This year’s race will also feature a one-kilometer wheelchair race, marking a significant step towards promoting inclusivity in sports.

The Association announced enticing prize packages for the winners of the race. The first-place winner will receive a cash prize of 75,000 birr, while the second-place winner will be awarded 50,000 birr. The third-place will receive a prize of 25,000 birr, followed by 15,000 birr for fourth place, 10,000 birr for fifth place, and 5,000 birr for sixth place.
