While Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) was named as a panelist to represent Ethiopia at the Annual General Meeting of the African Export-Import Bank being held in Accra, capital city of Ghana, sources tell The Reporter that the Premier did not give final confirmation to attend despite having an interest to be present at the “important” summit.
While executives of Ethiopian banks and central bank officials represented the country at the event, Prime Minister Abiy could not make it due to other pressing engagements, according to a high level official The Reporter spoke to.
Vice Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Fikadu Digafe, and the presidents and executives of major Ethiopian banks including Dashen Bank, Zemen Bank, Berhan Bank and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia as well as Enat Bank attended the Afreximbank AGM 2023.
Meanwhile, former Minister Hailemariam Desalegn was also present although the Ethiopian delegation did not have a formal representation from PM Abiy’s administration.
The Reporter was present in Ghana to cover the event, which was held at the Accra International Conference Center.
