Ethiopian athletes gear up for World Athletics Championships

Ethiopia’s team is preparing for the 19th World Athletics Championships taking place August 19-27 in Budapest, Hungary.

The Ethiopian Athletics Federation selected 31 runners representing Ethiopia in middle and long distance track and road running events around one month ago. Athletes are training at the Ethiopian Sports Academy under the guidance of 11 coaches and 2 massage therapists following federation rules.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic 10,000 meters gold medalist Solomon Barega and 2023 World Cross Country silver medalist Berihu Aregawi will lead Ethiopia at the championships.

The championships in Budapest mark Hungary’s most important sporting event. In front of hundreds of thousands of spectators and an international television audience over 1 billion viewers, more than 2,000 athletes from over 200 countries will compete, making it the third largest athletics competition globally.
