Eyasu Wessen takes helm at African Boxing Confederation

Eyasu Wessen, a prominent figure in Ethiopian sports, is elected as president of the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) during a unanimous decision at a meeting held in Addis Ababa, today. Eyasu, who currently holds the position of president of the Ethiopian Boxing Federation (EBF) and Chairman of Omotic Business Group, emerged as the Ethiopian candidate and garnered the support of the voting delegstes.

This appointment is a significant milestone in Eyasu’s career and serves as a testament to his exceptional leadership and contributions to the sport of boxing, not only within Ethiopia but also on a broader African scale.

Eyasu has become the third Ethiopian sports personality to hold a significant position within a continental sports federation, following the likes of Yedenkachew Tesema, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and Dagmawit Girmay, the president of the African Badminton Confederation. Eyasu’s ascension to the presidency of the African Boxing Confederation further solidifies Ethiopia’s growing influence and representation in African sports governance.
