Foreign Ministry appoints Nebiyu Tedla as spokesperson

Seasoned diplomat Nebiyu Tedla has been appointed the new spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, replacing Meles Alem (Amb.).

The spokesperson made his debut at a press briefing earlier today, joining the Ministry HQ from Ethiopian missions to the African Union (AU) and UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), where he served as a director for economic cooperation.

Nebiyu has been with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more than two decades. He served in the Ethiopian mission to the UN in New York, and held the deputy spokesperson position for two years beginning 2011.

He succeeds Meles Alem, who wrapped up his second tenure as Ministry spokesperson after being appointed in June 2022.

The Ministry got a new chief last month when veteran diplomat Taye Atske Selassie (Amb.) was appointed to the cabinet. Taye took over from former Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen after serving as an advisor to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), and as Ethiopia’s permanent representative to the UN for four years beginning 2018.
