Sammy Ethiopia and Mafi Mafi, two Ethiopian fashion designers, will be showcasing their works at the Nolcha Shows in New York City.
The Nolcha Shows are a leading award winning event, held during New York Fashion Week, for independent fashion designers to showcase their collections to a global audience of press, retailers, stylists and industry influencers.

Held on 14th of September, 2016 during New York Fashion Week, through The East Africa Trade and Investment Hub, fashion designers from Ethiopia and Kenya –Sammy Ethiopia, Mafi Mafi, APRELLEDUANY and Ami Doshi Shah – will be showcasing their collections.
“Reading for Life” book fair @ Addis Ababa Exhibition Center
Goethe-Institut Addis Ababa is once again participating in “Reading for Life” book fair, the first big book fair in Ethiopia which started last year.
The spacious stall of the Goethe-Institut Addis Ababa has invited book lovers and other interested parties to an extensive program with readings, discussions and information sessions. According to the organizers attendees can relax with a book after browsing through the book fair.
The emphasis this year will be on different genres of literature. Readings of poems, short stories and essay are part of the event to be followed by a discussion. Attendees can get information about German Literature and the relationship between authors and social media. There will be several sessions with Ethiopian writers who will read from their books and sign them. Attractive prices with quiz about the Goethe-Institut are also part of the program.
The venue of the book fair “Reading for Life” is the Addis Ababa Exhibition Center and all discussions and readings will be in Amharic.
The Addis Show @ Gebre Kristos Desta Center
Julie Mehretu’s The Addis Show opened yesterday at Gebre Kristos Desta Center in the presence of invited guests.
The show features 17 of Julie’s paintings, ranging from her earliest paintings to her most recent work. Julie Merhretu has exhibited her art around the world but this marks the first time here work is being exhibited in Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian-American Julie was born in Addis Ababa in 1970 and currently lives and works in New York City. Considered as one of the finest painters of her generation, she is an artist of immeasurable talent and her work is widely collected around the world. One of her most recent paintings sold for more than USD four million.
As part of the show leading artists, architects, and scholars will be part of the symposium that will provide an expansive intellectual framework to understand themes central to Julie’s work, as well as a more capacious perspective on the creative, social, and political forces that guide the contemporary world.
CinemArena returns after 40-day-long educational campaign
CinemArena—a film road-show and education campaign project implemented by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in collaboration with the Regional Health Bureau of Southern Regional State—has made its return from its journey, having brought its itinerant projections on the theme of nutrition.
This innovative and successful project has managed to reach, in its 3,000 kilometers journey, more than twenty thousand spectators in the Zone of Sidama.
The educational campaigns of CinemArena are directed to rural populations, bringing this important message in 20 villages in Southern Regional State, increasing the awareness on pre-natal health, nursing, complementary nutrition for newborns, diet diversification and women empowerment.
Apart from Ethiopia, CinemArena has already been implemented in other countries like Mozambique, Lebanon and Senegal.
CinemArena has obtained a great success highlighted by the fact that due the awareness raising campaigns, the number of people contacting medical centers has increased notably in the other countries where it has been implemented.
