Saint George FC clinched the Ethiopian Premier League crown for a record 13th time.
The EPL, which ended on Wednesday at the Addis Ababa Stadium, saw two matches between Saint George and Hawassa City and Dedebit facing Hossana Hadiya.
The Horsemen beat Hawassa with goals coming from top scorer Adane Girma on the 46th minute another from Ramkel Lok four minutes later Mulugeta Mihret scored the consolation for Hawassa on the 83rd minute from the spot.
“It was a very great season for me and Saint George. I can say that our success started from our preparations and team work.” attacking midfielder, Adane Girma, told The Reporter.
Saint George finished the season with 55 points—10 points above runner-ups Ethiopia Coffee. Adama City secured third.
In the other match of the day, Dedebit defeated Hossana Hadiya 4-1. Nigerian striker Samuel Sanumi and Henok Esasyas gave Dedebit two goals while Dawit Fekadu scored the remaining two. Temesgen Gebretsadek scored the only goal for the Hossana.
Dedebit forward Dawit finished the season with 14 goals, one goal behind of Tafese Tesfaye of Adama Kenema.
Saint George’s Ugandan goalie Robert Odongkara took home the title of best goalkeeper of the season for the fifth time in a row. Aschalew Tamene of Saint George was selected as best player of the season and Adama City striker Tafese Tisfaye won the top goal scorer award after netting 15 goals in the season.
Ugandan goalie said that the season was tough for them because the opponents were very challenging.
Central midfielder Aschalew stated that his dream to see the Horsemen crowned continental championship.
The season also ended with Dashen FC and Hossana Hadiya being relegated.
