In arguably the most anticipated meeting of the House of Peoples Representatives (HoPR) in recent memory, the state of emergency which was declared by the Council of Ministers was approved by the Ethiopian parliament with a record nay vote. The members of the parliament approved the proclamation with the support of 395 members while 88 voted nay. The other seven MPs abstained.
The parliament approved the proclamation in an emergency session that was held today.
Although the number of voters in support of the proclamation was first announced to be 346, the communications director of the parliament told The Reporter over the phone that the previous number is wrong because of counting errors.
