Draft bill enables Addis Ababa deputy mayor to be appointed out of city council

A draft bill amending the City Administration Charter that allows the appointment of deputy mayor for the city of Addis Ababa out of the City Council has been presented for the parliament, today.

In addition, the draft bill provides for the current administration of the city to remain in power until City Council and Cabinet election is held. The election was postponed to next year because of the difficulty to hold election this year given the political unrest observed in the country.

The parliament discussed the draft bill and sent it to the Legal and Justice Affairs Standing Committee for further scrutiny.
