EPL transfer window peaks

With the Ethiopian Premier league (EPL) coming to a close last month, the transfer window kicked in high gear with the club’s attention returned to transferring players and bolstering their squad for the upcoming season

Almost all EPL clubs are pledging millions of birr in various players. The 2017/18 EPL champion, Jimma Aba Jiffar has sold many players including their top scorer Okiki Afolabi and Henok Adunga. OKiki was the top goal scorer of the season with 23 goals and now joined the Egyptian side Ismaily.

After Coach Gebremedin Haile’s impressive one year stay in Jimma Aba Jiffar, he has left the club and signed for Mekele City. Following his exit, over seven players were reported to have put pen to paper for different clubs.

Elsewhere, after Dedebit aka the blues moved their seat to Mekele City, many of their players have signed for several clubs. Dedebit left back, Seyoum Tisfaye’s transfer to Mekele City, midfielder Shemeket Gugesa’s transfer to Fasil City and forward Abel Yalew signing for St. George are on top of the transfer news headlines. According to some rumors, Dedebit are underfinanced and their existence in next year’s season will be under question.

One of the busier clubs’ in signing players – Fasil City, has signed defender Mujib Kasim. Mujib became the sixth player to sign for the emperors. It is to be recalled that they have also signed Coach Wubetu Abate of Hawasa City. Wubetu was the coach of Hawasa City for the last two years and the only coach to win the league with Ethiopian Coffee in 2010/2011 EPL season.

Welwalo Adigrat University, Defense, Woliata Dicha and Mekele City are also very active in the transfer window.
