Defense Ministry confirms Al-Shabaab attack on Ethiopian Army in Somalia

The Ministry of Defense has confirmed that Al Shabaab has attacked a convoy carrying Ethiopian soldiers who were on a peacekeeping mission in Somalia.

According to a statement that the Ministry sent to The Reporter, the attack targeted a convoy traveling from Burahakaba to Baidoa which the members of the military effectively averted.

Stating that the defense force has been effectively defending attacks from Al-Shabaab, the Ministry, however, argued that the group has been weakened as a result.

Although it was on Wednesday January 18, 2019 that the news of the attack, which according to reports has claimed the lives of many members of the military, first came out; the statement, nevertheless, did not indicate the extent of the damages and the number of casualties.

The statement further reminded that the Ethiopian National Defense Forces has been playing a decisive role in the peacekeeping process in Somalia.
