Ethiopia to host biggest trade faire 

The 3rd edition of the international trade show, agrofood&plastprintpackof Ethiopia, scheduled to take place from 09-11 May, 2019, is said to be the biggest exhibition ever to be hosted in the country, The Reporter has learnt.

An initiative of the German based fair-trade Messe and Addis-based Prana Events, it is to host a slew of delegates from a dozen nations; including Germany, the Netherlands, Turkey, China, France and Italy involved in agriculture, food and beverage processing and packaging technology, as well as food & hospitality. In addition, it will bring in actors involved in areas of plastics, printing and packaging.

Stephan Wendt, First Secretary, Head of Economic and Cultural Sections of the German Embassy in Addis Ababa, told The Reporterthat,“From the perspective of the German Embassy, it is important to support such an exhibition as it connects local companies with German and international companies in order to identify potentials for cooperation,” adding, “This includes adding local value by processing more in Ethiopia with German machinery to foster exports and substitute imports.”

This year, notably, in attendance are representatives of the German Federal Ministry of Goods and Agriculture, the Netherlands – African Business Council and the Turkish Ministry of Trade. Within the nation, it is supported by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Food, Beverage and Pharmaceutical Industry Development Institute, Food, Medicine and Health Care Administration and Control Authority of Ethiopia and the Chemical and Construction Inputs Industry Development Institute.

Ethiopia stands as a net exporterof food products with the overall food trade amounting to USD 4.088 billion, of which food export accountsfor USD 2.199 billion and imports USD 1.889 billion,in 2017.

This year’s event will take place inside the Millennium Hall for three consecutive days, starting on the 9th of May.
