With the tenure of the current Addis Ababa City Administration coming to an end, the Unity for Democracy and Justice Party (UDJ) has called for the establishment of a new caretaker administration to administer the city. The party vowed its readiness and commitment to work with other democratic political forces to achieve this goal The Reporter has learnt.
The party expressed its stand over the obscure issues of Addis Ababa and other concerns over the current political situation of the country in a press conference held at Ras Hotel on Thursday, March 20, 2019. The presser was delivered by Tigistu Awelu, chairman of the party, and other leaders of the party.
Other than the issues of Addis Ababa, the party has expressed its concerns over the ongoing political reforms, which the party described it as halted, due to the conflicts, displacement and killings of civilians in different parts of the country. It calls upon the government to take the initiative and decision so as to both sustain the hope of change and to restore peace and security throughout the country.
In this regard, the party blames the elites in the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) for their involvement in intensifying regionalism over unity and national agenda. Hence, the party requests all political forces especially the elites in the EPRDF, to refrain from propagating a divisive agenda that will eventually put in danger the existence of the country.
“Whether you are the leaders of the EPRDF or the forces of change; if you really love Ethiopia at heart, please work your best to stop ethnically motivated conflicts, displacement and killings of civilians across the country,” the party officials stated, requesting all political actors in the country to take necessary measures.
The party stressed on the need to have a proper political roadmap, and all political forces should play their role in an endeavor to regain law and order across the country.
Finally, the party called upon all political forces to get out of the outdated political tune, which mainly is characterized by conspiracy and blaming each other.
