Bayern Munich, the dominant force in Germany’s Bundesliga, is set to open a football training school center in Addis Ababa. The delegates of the club will be arriving in the capital to discuss with the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) on the opening of the school and the overall development of football in Ethiopia.
Ethiopia and Germany have strong diplomatic ties and football has been one of the areas of cooperation. A case in point of this corporation is the Ethio-Germany football development which was led by Fikert Yohakim. However, as Fikert’s time came to an end finishing his term, football projects and related activities were left unfinished.
Recently, EFF president’s secretary, Eyasu Merhasadik (PhD) and technical director Mekonen Kuru discussed at the Ethiopian national stadium highlighting the significance of the projects and the support Fikert had been extending.
During their stay in Addis, U-17 football matches among eight football clubs is being planned to be held in April 7, 2019. The aim of this tournament is to showcase youth talents in football to the representatives and to create awareness on the current football atmosphere in the country.
Pre-match trainings have been held in the national stadium on April 2, 2019, among Saint George, Electric, Said Keyar Bisrat Fc and Fikre Selam football clubs.
The German team also visited CAF football academy opened months ago and expressed Bayern’s interest to get the academy up and running. According to the EFF, a draft agreement is going to be signed between the EFF and the Bundesliga giants.
