Eight clubs to contest City Cup

The 14th edition of the Addis Ababa City Cup competition will commence with eight clubs on November 2, 2019 in Addis Ababa stadium. The competition will kick-off with a match between St. George and Defense FC. The newly promoted clubs Wolkite City and Sebeta City will also be featured in the competition.

The Cup organizers committee officially unveiled on Thursday, October 24, 2019, that eight different clubs are in the draw. Four clubs based in Addis Ababa City and four regional clubs complete the groups to face-off in the national stadium, in the coming weeks. Following the draw, the 14 time Ethiopian Premier League (EPL) champions, St. George, will face Defense in their opening match while Electric takes on Welwalo Adigrat University. After a poor showing in last season’s league competition, St. George will be looking to begin their season on the right track when they face the relegated side: Defense.

In another cup fixture, Bahir Dar will host Wolkite City in the second round of matches. The newly promoted Wolkite City, will participate in the competition for the first time in the cups history.

St. George, Bahir Dar City, Wolkite City and Defense have been drawn in Group A, while Ethiopia Coffee, Electric, Welwalo Adigrat Univerity and Sebeta City are grouped in group B. Ethiopia Coffee won the 2018 Addis Ababa City cup after a convincing win over Bahir Dar City 4-1.
