Tibeb be Adebabay finale @ Goethe

Tibeb be Adebabay, a project that brought art to public spaces of the city and into the people’s daily lives, ends on June 10 at the Goethe-Institut.

In May and June 2017, ten local artist groups toured Addis Ababa to present their work in public places of the city and engage visitors into artistic performances. The idea behind “Tibeb be Adebabay” has been that culture is not a luxury for those who can afford it, but a necessity for everyone.

However, many people in Addis do not have access to the cultural centres, to good books and musical instruments. Therefore, the festival brought art and culture into people’s daily lives. And so they did – at ten cultural Suks located from Sidist Kilo to Jemo, from Merkato to Bole.

The end will be celebrated with an exhibition displaying the artworks created during the project. Besides, a film about Tibeb be Adebabay will be shown for the first time and there will be live music.

International Day of Yoga @ Intercontinental

The Embassy of India will be observing the 3rd International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 17 at Intercontinental Hotel.

Yoga, which is part of India’s ancient heritage and is practiced in various forms around the world, provides for a holistic approach to health and well-being. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. Recognizing its benefits as well as its universal appeal, the UN general assembly had declared on 11 December 2014 that June 21 would be the International Day of Yoga.

As in earlier years, the IDY will be celebrated this year by bringing together people from various walks of life at one venue to practice Yoga and to create awareness about its benefits. This gathering of more than 1,000 people would also benefit from advice and guidance of Yoga experts and teachers.

The event is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle and celebrate Yoga as a common universal heritage.
