Ashebir accused of disrespect, false allegations

The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) executive committee member Dagmawit Girmay accused Ethiopian Olympic Committee President Ashebir Woldegiorgis of disrespecting her and falsely blaming her for wrongdoings.

The Reporter has learnt that the issue happened following a disagreement during a general meeting which was held between Dagmawit and members of the executive committee of the Ethiopian Olympic Committee.

According to EOC executive committee secretary general Tamrat Bekele, she has submitted a letter which states her grievances.

Tamrat elaborated that the letter will be evaluated by the Olympic committee’s executive board members.

However, sources told The Reporter that Dagmawit has also filed a law suit.

As a result of informal audits in the intuition, several issues rose over corruption for a long time.

“We are trying to reform our old system of management to follow a modern way. There are rumors of false documents leaked and a sport equipment shop that was opened. Rectifying this is my responsibility as a President,” Ashebir told The Reporter.

Ashebir stated that he does not have any personal issue with Dagmawit but is against the corrupt system of the Olympic Committee.

“She is a member of international Olympic committee. She has a right to be involved in our general assembly. However, this does not mean she can involve in our decisions. So, we appreciate her support and I don’t have any personal issue with her,” he added.

The Reporter tried to reach Dagmawit  but she was not available until press time.

Dagmawit served as the president of the Ethiopian National Olympic Committee from 2004 to 2008. She is now a member in the International Olympic Committee.
