Dangote launches continental health coalition
Nigerian business mogul Aliko Dangote, through his foundation, the Aliko Dangote Foundation, today launched an African health coalition together with more than 10 companies joining the African Business Coalition on Health፡ "ABCHealth".
Launching the coalition in Addis Ababa this morning, Halima Dangote, daughter of Aliko Dangote was joined by heads of state and government from Ethiopia, Botswana and Djibouti and ministries from AU member states.
Halima Dangote, speaking on behalf of her father, said that Aliko Dangote is spending one percent of the company’s after tax returns for health activities in Africa.
At the forum dubbed፡ Africa Business Health Forum, 2019", football star Didier Drogba and key players from international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ecobank, and the like convened to work on healthcare.
According to a report issued by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, there is a USD 66 billion financing gap in the healthcare annually. Calling for public private partnership, Vera Songwe, executive secretary with the UNECA, said that there are potential economic opportunities in tune of USD 450 billion investment in the health sector across Africa.
