Design Week Addis Ababa is set to debut its fourth edition on Monday
The week-long program, ‘Design Week Addis Ababa’, is set to showcase and highlight local and international works in architecture, urban planning, fashion and designs, in which its founder, Metasebia Yoseph describes as “development by design”.
The event is set to have a variety of events scattered all over the city, including the much anticipated Yenae Collection, a collection of jewelries inspirited by the cultures of Ethiopian and Eritrea, one co-organized by Global Shapers named, “shaping Addis through innovation” to be held at Alliance Ethio-Française and Design Lovers Day: The Best of Design Week to be held at Kana Studio, next Saturday.
Organized by the group, DWAA (Design Week Addis Ababa), it describes its work as a “community based and collaborative cultural event that spotlights some of the best innovations through the country”. Started in 2015, it was held every year, except in 2018 and this year’s event is to be the fourth time it has been held in the capital and has partnered with Tourism Ethiopia as its strategic partner.
In a recent interview with linkupaddis, Metasabia describes the event as one that “is engaging in more design consultations and collaborations with different brands, as well as one-off events and workshops where we host international design professionals and facilitate collaborative projects through our design Lab Program.”
She also announced a plan to develop a space to support the local creative community.
The opening of Design Week Addis Ababa it to be held on Monday at Hayatt Regency at an invitation only event. However, most of the events are free and open to the public.
