Ethiopia Coffee to face league leaders Jimma Aba Jiffar
After a week that saw a derby match in the capital, the Ethiopian Premier League (EPL) returns with a crucial match between Ethiopia Coffee and league leaders Jimma Aba Jiffar. Dedebit will face Sidama Coffee.
It is not strange to see the team struggle for consistency in its debut year. But newcomers Jimma Aba Jiffar have continued their good run of form and are currently on top of the table while experienced clubs are languishing with a rather poor showing at times.
Last week saw Jimma defeat relegation fighter Electric 4-0. Samson Tolcha of Jimma opened the scoring sheet in the 12th minute. Jimma doubled their tally through Okiki Afolabi in the 49th minute. Okiki Has now bagged 14 goals this competition leading the scoring chart. Jimma sit at the summit with 38 points and tomorrow’s match against Coffee is not going to be easy. Ethiopia Coffee lost 1-0 last week to their rivals St. George.
In another fixture Dedebit will take on Sidama Coffee in Yirgalem stadium. The blues were on the right track in the first round of EPL fixtures. However, in the last five matches, the blues only managed to win one game, loss three and draw one. On week 21, the blues were beaten by Mekele City 2-1 in Addis Ababa stadium. Dedebit is placed third on the league table with 33 points. Their test, Sidama Coffee – are 10th on the table. Sidama Coffee has collected 24 points playing 21 games.
Meanwhile, the defending champion, St. George entertains relegation fighter Arba Minch city. Midfielder Mulalem Misfen’s 88th minute header against Ethiopia Coffee gave them the all needed three points. Now, the Horsemen sit second on the table amassing 34 points and still have a match in-hand.
Elsewhere, Fasil City play against Adama City in Fasileds stadium. Both have collected the same point tally of 32. Adama are placed fifth while the emperors sit seventh. On Sunday, Mekele face Woliata Dicha in Mekele stadium. Mekele sit fourth with 32 points while having two matches in hand.
Dire Dawa city, Electric and Welwalo Adigrat are still fighting to secure their stay in the league.
