Fasil City, Dedebit to face-off in Gonder

Week 20 of the Ethiopian Premier League (EPL) fixtures will see Dedebit face Fasil City on Friday, while Sidama hosts Jimma Aba Jiffar and Ethiopian Coffee takes on the northern club Welwalo Adigrat.

The inconsistent performances that plagued the first-round of EPL still continued to prevail in the second round with almost all matches ending in a draw. The EPL is fairly getting easier for any club to climb the top of the ladder if it manages to win two to three consecutive matches.

Dedebit face Fasil city in Gonder stadium carrying over band run in recent matches with two defeats, one win and a draw. The Emperors are also on relatively similar streak having won only one match, losing two and one game still unfinished in its last four consecutive encounters. However, last week’s game that saw fasil lead Woldia 2-1 until the 90th minute is under enquiry by the Ethiopia Football Federation (EFF) due to football hooliganism that rocked the stadium and interrupted game.

Emperors board decided to fire Mintesnot Getu after they drew against Jimma Aba Jiffar in a home match. They appointed former Woliata Dicha coach Mesay Teferi following their dismal performance in last week’s fixture under coach Mintesnot.

Fasil city are placed seventh on the league table with 26 points.

In another fixture Jimma will travel to south Ethiopia to face Sidama Coffee. The match is scheduled for the coming Friday in Yergalem Stadium. A single goal in the second half from Okiki Afolabi helped Jimma secure three points on home soil.

Jimma sits second on the league table with 32 points.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia Coffee will take on relegation embattled Welwalo Adigrat and Adama will face Hawassa on Friday in Hawassa Stadium.

Dedebit still tops the table with 33 points followed by Jimma in the second place. St. George sits third with 30 points and still a game in hand. Ethiopia Coffee is placed fourth with 29 points. Dire Dawa City, Electric and Welwalo Adigrat are still fighting to escape the relegation zone.
