Fasil to face Mekelle in Addis

In week 11’s Ethiopian Premier League (EPL) fixtures, Fasil is to face Mekelle City today at Addis Ababa Stadium while Adama City is to host Ethiopia Coffee.

Following a request from both clubs’ managements (fearing a potential episode of hooliganism), the match between Fasil City and Mekelle is to be held at Addis Ababa.  Fasil (a.k.a. the Emperors) are to face newcomers Mekelle.  It will be a do-or-die match for both sides. The Emperors have proven formidable over the past couple of weeks.  Fasil are placed third with 15 points and Mekelle are sixth with 14 points.

The Emperors have remained unbeaten in the last nine matches and tied in six matches so far.  Meanwhile, northern side Mekelle also lost only one match and they are not easily beaten. Both sides are up to a good start and today’s match would be decisive.

Tomorrow’s fixtures will see Adama playing against Ethiopia Coffee and Dedebit taking on Welwalo Adigrat University.  Adama City is placed fourth with 15 points, and unbeaten in the last nine matches. On week 10, Adama City beat Electric 3-2, scoring all goals during the second half. Electric’s Addis Negash scored the opening goal in the 44th minute in a penalty kick. But, former St. George striker Dawa Hutessa’s two goals and Bulcha Shura’s 88th minute goal helped the visitors earn three points. Electric’s Al-Hassen Kalusha scored the second goal in the 92nd minute.

Meanwhile, Ethiopian Coffee is still struggling to come to winning mode.  After they beat Woldia City in week eight, Coffee were defeated by Electric, Dedebit and tied with bottom-placed Wolaita Dicha.

Elsewhere, Dedebit (a.k.a. the Blues) are taking on Welwalo Adigrat. The Blues are still on top form with 22 points.  Dedebit have thus far prevailed in 6 of their 10 matches.  On week eight, the Blues beat Arba Minch 2-1. Getaneh Kebede scored both goals, taking his tally to seven, the highest in the league.

Dedebit top the table with 22 points, St. George (with two games in hand) follow with 16 points.  Fasil and Adama come next with 15 points. Arba Minch, Electric and Dire Dawa City are still tottering at the bottom of the table.
