Financial crisis hits Dedebit, players stop training

The players of Dedebit FC stopped training amid financial crisis the club is facing. The club has been unable to pay regular salaries to its players, The Reporter has learnt.

Dedebit has recently faced a financial crisis even though the club has qualified to take part in this season’s Ethiopian Premier League. The club seems to be unable to curb its financial problems.

According to team leader Efrem Assefa, “due to the club’s partner organizations failure to keep their promises of financial support the club has encountered a challenge to pay salaries to its players.” He further noted that they are trying their best to find a sustainable solution. However, he stated that he does not understand the reason supporting organizations have failed to provide financial assistance. He said that they have been under pressure recently affecting the clubs performance and teamwork. It is to be remembered that Dedebit has lost all three matches it played recently.

Dedebit has been moved to Mekele from Addis Ababa to solve its financial problems. In addition, the club has put limitation on pay not to exceed 25,000 birr per month.
