Loza Abera signs for Malta club
Ethiopian Women National Team striker Loza Abera has joined the Malta-based Football club, Birkirkara FC on a one year contract, The Reporter has learnt.
Former Dedebit and Adama City player Loza has been in Malta for couple of weeks for a trial session with the Maltese First Division side, Birkirkara FC, which is also the running champion of league. On Thursday 29, 2019, the club officially announced that the Ethiopian forward has signed a one year contractual agreement. Loza has been in Sweden for trail, last year. However, she didn’t make the cut to be able to play for the Swedish club.
Lucy’s forward has been unstoppable in Ethiopian Women Premier League scoring number of goals in one season. She finished the last Ethiopian Women Premier League season as the top goal scorer of the season, in addition to taking The Best Player of the Year title.
She started her club level football career in 2012 with Hawasa City FC before moving to Dedebit. Two years later, in 2014, she joined Dedebit FC, where she began to dominate the woman football scene in Ethiopia and for the first time, topped the top goal scorers’ charts. After she returned from her trial in Sweden, Loza moved to Adama City, where she assisted the club to win the 2018/19 premier league title.
In 2016, Loza was named one of the ten influential Ethiopian women of the year in The Reporter’s New Year edition.
Birkirkara FC is based in the town of Birkirkara the largest town on the island of Malta. They have been crowned champions of the Maltese First Division eight times.
