Mob vandalize properties claimed to be carrying two ANDM officials
Protesters in Debremarkos town of the Amhara Regional State attacked a hotel and set a vehicle on fire. The vehicle that was set ablaze was alleged to have hosted and transported two higher officials from the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM).
The targeted officials are Bereket Simon, the erstwhile deputy head of the Policy Study and Research Center and Communications Minister and Migbaru Kebere, member of the Central Committee of ANDM, according to Nigusu Tilahun, head of the Amhara Regional State Communications Affairs Office.
Nigusu said that a vehicle that was alleged to have transported one of the targeted officials was set on fire. The mob was driven to undertake the action instigated by wrong information that was circulated on social media regarding the activities of the aforementioned officials who were allegedly “moving around to achieve their own political goals”.
“Every citizen, including a government official, should not be alienated of his/her right to move from place to place,” Nigusu said.
