A High Level Dialogue Forum on the theme:“Challenges of Transition, Ethiopia’s Reform Process: Current Dynamics, Challenges and Risks,” was held at the compound of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA)on the 22nd and 23rd of August, 2019. The conference was organized by the Ethiopian Foreign Relations Strategic Institute, the Inter Africa Group, theCenter for Dialogue, Research and Cooperation, Amani Africa and Berghof Foundation. Among the discussants wereGetachew Reda, Member of the Executive Committee of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), accompanied by LidetuAyalew, Member of the National Council of the Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP), and Bekele Gerba, Vice chairman of the Oromo Federalist Congress(OFC). The dialogue was moderated by Tsedale Lemma, Editor-in-Chief of Addis Standard, an English online Magazine based in Ethiopia. Even though the discussion was aimed atreflecting on the challenges and opportunities of the ongoing reform in Ethiopia, the three speakers appeared highly polarized over the definition of the very term “reform” and who can claim ownership of this reform.
