Recent casualties irate ODP, OLF

The Oromo Democratic Party (ODP) and the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) issued a strong worded statement on Thursday and Friday, respectively, condemning the recent casualties along the borders of the Oromia and Benishangul Gumuz regional states, The Reporter has learnt.

In this regard, following its central committee meeting, which was held on November 29, 2018, the ODP issued a strong statement particularly regarding the recent clashes and conflicts across Oromia.

ODP, the ruling party in Oromia region, has reportedly discussed a wide array of issues, particularly stressing on clashes in Moyale and Chenaksen towns.

More than anything, the party in its statement said: “Forces whose interests were compromised because of the current changes and reforms are tirelessly working to destabilize Oromia Region.”

“Their wishes of making Oromia a battle ground will soon be buried,” said the statement.  

In a related news, the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) criticized the federal as well as the Oromia regional government for failing to ensure the safety and security of the population in West Oromia Zone which was largely affected by the recent clashes.

The party has also said university students from Oromia were also attacked because of their ethnicity.

“Even if the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) promised to bring changes, those people who are said to be the causes of all the problems are still at large and the ruling party in not doing enough,” reads the statement issued by OLF.

OLF also calls upon the government to stop the killings of our citizens.

The party also said that given the circumstances, it will use its natural right to defend itself from which it said are “ethnically induced attacks against the people of Oromia.”
