Remaining week one fixtures set for the weekend

Week two of EPL commences

With the opening day fixtures partially concluded last weekend, the remaining matches of the Ethiopian Premier League (EPL) will take place on Sunday with St. George hosting Bahir Dar, Shire Endeselassie playing against Woliata Dicha, while South Police setup to face Defense.

With only five matches played in the country, Jimma, Sidama, Hawasa, Mekele and Ethiopia Coffee all won their fixtures.

Five matches were played in the opening EPL fixtures last week in which Jimma, Sidama, Hawasa, Mekele and Ethiopia Coffee came out triumphant.  Runners-up St. George host newcomers Bahir Dar City in Addis Ababa with a fairly new squad after the veterans were released from contractual obligations.

Over five senior players of the Horsemen were released by the club and have joined various clubs thereafter. Weeks ago, St. George sacked Coach Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto after a year and a half in charge of the club. Managed by assistant coaches, St. George is expected to challenge the debutants on home soil. Bahir Dar City, runner-ups in the Addis Ababa City Cup, hope be a tough challenge for the 14-time -champions, St. George.

In other Sunday fixtures, Shire Endeselassie is to take on Woliata Dicha. It will be a great chance for the newcomers to host the first match on home soil in front of their fans. After gaining promotion, Shire was busy strengthening its squad by incorporating experienced and foreign players. Nevertheless, the southern side, Woliata Dicha, is well-known in sharing points in away matches.

Meanwhile, South Police is set to face Defense.

Elsewhere, in week two fixtures Welwalo Adigrat University will play against Mekele City on Saturday in the Tigray Derby. It is a vital match for both sides as these clubs are rivals in the region. EPL week two fixtures will also see Fasil City to host Hawassa and Dedebit take on Ethiopia Coffee. In a mid-week fixture, Jimma Aba Jiffar will face army side Defense.
