Theatre giant Fikadu Teklemariam laid to rest
The Ethiopian theatre giant Fikadu Teklemariam has been laid to rest at the Holy Trinity Cathedral Church today in Addis Ababa after 40 years of revered stage life. Fikadu’s body was transported to Addis Ababa from Woldia, where he has remained in a monastery attending holy water religious treatment.
Fikadu suffered from kidney failure for which both his colleagues and the government have made commitments to provide the necessary medical help the artist needs to the extent of undergoing a kidney transplant surgery. Nevertheless, Fikadu had chosen to allocate the money to an 18-year-old girl who was also suffering from the same illness.
Hence, Fikadu reportedly received no medical treatment as a result of the support provided by the government and his colleagues. Before the funeral service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral Church, his colleagues, fans and other dignitaries paid tribute for the 40 years services Fikadu has rendered to art sector.
Artists, government representatives, fans and religious fathers had gathered at the Holy Trinity Cathedral Church to bid farewell to the respected stage idol and theatre guru.
