Tunisia League invites Ethiopian referees to officiate crucial match
Ethiopian international referees have been invited to officiate in the Tunisia Premier League for a match between Esperance de Tunis and Etoile Sportive du Sahel on Wednesday. The Tunisia Football Federation has submitted a letter to the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) requesting for Ethiopian referees to lead the upcoming match.
One of Tunisia’s highly expected match between Esperance de Tunis versus Etolie du Sahel is scheduled to take place on January 15, 2020. Upon the request from Tunisia Football Federation, Ethiopian Beamlak Tessema was selected with his other fellow assistant referees.
Esperance FC is one of the top clubs in Tunisia Premier League wining 29 titles in the league. Meanwhile, Etolie Sportive du Sahel has managed to win 10 times. Currently, Esperance is second in the league via 25 points while Etolie is placed sixth with 18 points.
Selected to officiate continental tournaments, Ethiopian referees have had a successful year. Beamlak Tesema, Lidia Tafesse and Temesgin Samuel were the chosen three, as they made their way to their respective venues to officiate matches in 2018/2019 seasons. During the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt, referee Beamlak was given the opportunity to officiate four matches, while Temsgin was listed as an assistant referee. Lidia Tafese was also able to take positive strides, as she was selected to officiate in the 2019 Women World Cup held in France.
Elsewhere, the EFF has listed 21 international referees recognized by the world football governing body FIFA. According to the announcement, 11 international referees and 10 assistant referees have received recognition from FIFA through the EFF. Eight women were recognized as referees,’ while four have received recognition as an assistant referee.
Meanwhile, among 13 male referees six have received a recognition following a physical evaluation.
