USD 795 mln solar power projects up for bidders

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has initiated six solar power projects with aggregated generating capacity of 798 megawatt (MW) electric power that will require an investment of USD 795 million.

Out of the 16 mega projects identified fit for implementation under the newly instituted Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework, six are now on the stages of request for proposal and request for qualification, according to Teshome Tafesse (PhD), State Minister of Finance.

Currently, two Scaling Solar projects which were initiated prior to the PPP had sought the involvement of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and will soon be receiving proposals, Teshome added. The two solar power projects to be implemented are located in Afar and Somali Regional States.

The board of the PPP and the office of the PPP directorate general at the Ministry have been tasked to implementing 16 major solar and hydro power and express roads projects to which feasibility studies are being conducted.
