Women in the pedestal: AWiB recognizes Kibra Kebede
The 2018 Association of Women in Boldness (AWiB) hosted its annual Women of Excellence award recognizing outstanding female leaders pioneering change in society. This year’s award went to Kibra Kebede, founder of the Parkinson’s Patients Support Organization (PPSO).
PPSO has been working with creating social awareness on Parkinson’s disease and offering patients resources with which to live with the disease and a close-knit community.
Parkinson’s, a disorder of the central nervous system that affects movement, is one of the most misunderstood diseases in the country.
Established in 2011, PPSO has more than 500 members, offering support to patients and their families through financial support and access to medical care.
AWiB has given the Women of Excellence award for the past 7 years, recognizing female community leaders and change makers. The award ceremony was hosted at the Sheraton Hotel on Sunday October 28. This year’s nominees included Worknesh Munie, Workinesh Daba, Rahel Shawl and Keria Ali. The award comes with a 100,000 Birr prize. Previous awardees include Anna Getaneh and Tsehai Röshli.
AWiB also recognized Tewabech Bishaw (MD) with a lifetime achievement award for her contribution in transforming health in Ethiopia.
