African Leaders documentary film project
Young documentary filmmakers with a strong idea on the subject “African Leader” will be supported by the Goethe-Institut in Addis Ababa to work on a documentary film project.
According to the announcement made the Goethe-Institut in Addis Ababa, selected projects will be invited to participate in a one week development workshop in February next year at the Goethe-Institut in Addis Ababa.
The workshops shall help directors to further develop their project idea with professional consultants and mentors. In addition to that, is will also help them to strengthen the idea of co-producing, to develop presentation material and rehearse the pitch to commissioning editors.
According to the organizers, the aim is to pitch the project in May 2017 at the DOKfest Munich. The deadline for submission of the project idea is November 1, 2016.
The initiative is a cooperation between the Goethe-Institut Addis Ababa, DOKfest Munich, Foreign Ministry Germany and Perfect Shot Films and supported by professional filmmakers from Africa and Europe.
Coke Studio Africa Season 4 on EBS
The Coca-Cola Company has launched on Thursday the Coke Studio Africa Season 4, which will include Ethiopian artists and air on EBS locally for the first time in the history of the show.
Under the theme: “Discover”, the new season brings together some of the best creative minds on the continent with the sole aim of creating the best music engagement platform for teens in Africa. Season 4 promises to take the public on a journey of self-discovery on every episode, creating an emotional bond through the musical experience that awaits them.
Representing Ethiopia, Henok Mehari, Betty G, Lij Mikael, Dawit Tsege and Haile Roots will have a significant responsibility to use the Coke Studio Africa platform to promote their music and showcase the Ethiopian culture and share their experiences with artists from various parts of Africa.
Unlike any other musical platforms, Coke Studio Africa is a show with a non-competitive format, aiming to bring together African artists to show the diversity of the African music.
Václav Havel photo exhibition @ Alliance Ethio-Française
Embassy of the Czech Republic in Addis Ababa in cooperation with the Václav Havel Library in Prague has organized a photo exhibition entitled “Václav Havel: Politics of Conscience and Responsibility” which will be held at the Alliance Ethio-Française in Addis Ababa from October 28 till November 8.
October 2016 marks 80th birthday anniversary of late president of the Czech Republic Václav Havel, who was one of the most influential political figures of the late 20th century. Playwright, poet and philosopher Havel’s political career was launched by events of Prague Spring of 1968. He was a prisoner of conscience, dissident and one of the first spokespersons of the Czechoslovak opposition group Charter 77 in 197s and 1980s. He served as President of Czechoslovakia and later elected and re-elected as the First President of the Czech Republic.
In addition, “Citizen Havel” a documentary film about life and work of Václav Havel will be screened October 27 at the cinema of the Alliance Ethio-Française at 6:00pm.
Hub of Africa Fashion Week @ Millennium Hall
This year’s Hub of Africa Fashion Week, which celebrated its fifth anniversary, was held last week at the Millennium Hall.
The 2016 runway show featured designers, stylists, hair and makeup artists as well as models from all across the African continent to promote African fashion on an international stage.
Ethiopian designers, Hirut Gugsa, Lemlem, Aynalem Ayele, Mahlet Afework, Fikirte Addis, Samrawit Mersiehazen all presented their works.
Hub of Africa Fashion Week 2016 was organized with the support of Vogue Talents and the Italian Embassy in Addis Ababa.
Sara Maino Senior Editor Vogue Italia and head of Vogue Talents, Simonetta Gianfelici, fashion consultant and talent scout; Serena Tibaldi, fashion journalist for “Repubblica”; and Ingrid Tamborin model scouter for Brave Modeling Management in Milanwill have attended Hub of Africa Fashion Week 2016.
Sara Maino Senior Editor Vogue Italia directed a talk show for industry stakeholders at the Millennium Hall on becoming the next Vogue talent.
Since its inception, the Hub of Africa Fashion Week has featured over 50 designers.
