Hailu Mergia to tour Europe

Ethiopian keyboardist, army accordionist and synth pioneer Hailu Mergia is set to hit the road with a series of performances in Europe. He will stage performances in the Netherlands and Belgium before he makes a stop at the Stockholm Jazz Festival in Sweden on October 10. He will then proceed to the UK, France, Germany and Switzerland for more performances.

Hailu Mergia was among Ethiopia's leading artists of the 1970s. He spent three decades carving out a national reputation both as solo artist and as member of groups like the Addis Ababa funk outfit, the Walias Band.

In 2013, Mergia, who has lived in America, made a comeback at a pub in Brooklyn after a 22-year musical hiatus.

Although his musical career slowed down with Mergia ending up driving a taxi in Washington DC where he lives, Mergia's music has invited interest over the years. In June 2016, for example, Awesome Tapes From Africa re-issued his third album, Wede Harer Guzo. The album includes ‘Sintayehu’ and ‘Minlbelesh’.

The event is set to be a fun filled event with much celebrities and fashion and entertainment personalities present showcasing the latest trends and introducing fashion from all over the world including US, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Senegal, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, South Africa, UK, Netherlands and much more.
Although, the show is also strictly focused on the business of fashion and it's the first fashion event in Ghana to focus primarily on the involvement of fashion boutiques as it's target audience.
This is to encourage a designer boutique buyers culture which has been missing in Ghana and most of Sub Sahara Africa. A process which the organizers believe is the lifeline to really developing a fashion industry in Ghana.

During the 27th African Union (AU) summit in Kigali, Rwanda, the AU passport was launched. The limitless opportunities this decision relay for African business is overwhelming. Within, the African Fashion business will grow better.
