On the economic front
ECA was host to a slew of bank governors from the continent and elsewhere at its High-High-level Ministerial Dialogue on “The African Continental Free Trade Area: creating fiscal space for jobs and economic diversification” this week. With various discussions taking place, the vision of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) was high on the agenda. "Free trade is not just a matter of being together; it’s a matter of changing internal structures,” Aia-Eza Nacilia Gomes Da Silva, Angolan Secretary of State for Budget, said. Ireland’s Central Bank Governor, Philip Lane was the featured speaker - “Greater trade is certainly beneficial, as long as implementers get the conditions right,” he said. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) also expressed a vision of a continent where “conflict is permanently replaced with cooperation”.
